We use the latest technology including to detect and monitor eye conditions.
Our advanced private eye examination is more than a simple test of the sharpness of your vision. It can detect (before you notice them) early signs of eye conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts and retinal problems. What’s more, your eyes can be an indication to your health and our optometrists may identify early onset of several common health problems, such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes. In fact, regular eye examinations should be a normal part of all your health routines because all of our eyes change over time.
We use the latest technology including an OCT scan which enables us to detect and monitor eye conditions. We recommend this to all of our patients and if you are entitled to an NHS sight test, you can simply ask to have an upgrade to this advanced eye examination.
Before we offer you advice or recommendations, we will ask you about your occupation, family history, and lifestyle. For example, how often you use computer screens, or read small print or take part in sporting activities. Our optometrists will then pass the relevant information on to our dispensing team who will help you to choose the frames and lenses best suited to you.
Dry eye occurs when you don't make enough tears or when your tears evaporate too quickly. It can make your eyes feel sore and gritty and can cause blurry vision. Strangely it often makes your eyes water because the oily layer in your tears becomes less effective.
Dry eye is more common as we get older and often more noticeable in women. The symptoms vary and can be quite uncomfortable and problematic for some people.
Treatments for dry eye
The treatment for dry eye depends on what is causing it and advice can be tailored to you after a dry eye assessment. It may be that drops, gels or ointments will relieve the symptoms and taking regular breaks from screens by looking away from the screen and blinking completely will help too.
For some cases of dry eye caused by poorly functioning oil glands, the treatment may involve using warm compresses and lid massage and cleansing routines.
